UNILOG™ : Light-Activated Digital Sound Logger
UNILOG can be deployed overnight, permanently, or anywhere in between. UNILOG has been designed to be flexible, mobile and optimized for US water systems.
Unilog economically surveys a wide area of a distribution system for leakage. It rules out leakage in most areas, allowing leak pinpointing efforts to be concentrated in areas where leaks are probable.
UNILOG features completely automatic advanced digital signal processing. The digital sound logger has 2-way light communication, is affordable, and simple to use.
Unilog Deployment
Spacing
Unilogs are usefully deployed at intervals of 250 feet to 2,500 feet. Shorter spacing implies higher sensitivity to leaks. Longer spacing implies increased predictive value and coverage. Spacing could also depend on expected leakage density.
Deployment
There are two basic deployment strategies for Unilog: Long-term and Short-term.
Long-term Deployment – Unilog’s software algorithms combine data from 1 to 7 consecutive nights at the same location. When turned ON, Unilog collects information every night from 12:15 am to 4:30 am, using its internal clock and processor. Single night, 3-night (particularly weekends), and 7-night deployments are useful strategies.
Unilog can detect a leak when deployed for a single night. Recording results from each extra night are combined to improve performance: either detection of less obvious leaks or ruling out non-leakage sound.
Short-term Deployment – This deployment mode allows the user to perform an immediate recording with the Unilog logger which takes approximately 2 minutes. While this deployment mode is not as powerful as the long-term mode, it is useful in circumstances such as confirmation of NO LEAK after a repair has been made.
Environment / Types of Pipe
Unilog works on all types of pipe and in different environments (transmission versus distribution mains, urban and rural zones) by adapting to the pipe sounds present. An inter-logger spacing of 250 feet or less is suggested for non-metallic pipe.

Checking Leak Status
Press the Status button at the top of the Flash Control to show the leak status. It will also show you the ON/OFF status of the logger, but it will not turn the logger on or off.
Long-term Recording
With the Flash Control LED directed toward the light sensor, press the button on the left marked “L-T” and the Unilog will turn ON or OFF. The Unilog will respond with a series of flashes indicating its current state:

UNILOG Manager Software
The Unilog Manager software manages the deployment, retrieval and status of each logger, aiding in tracking logger deployments and system leakage.
