Leakage Information

Lost water consists of metering errors, unaccounted for usage, and leakage. This section estimates how much lost water can be recovered by fixing leakage in the water distribution system and the service lines.

Recoverable leakage (gallons per day): This is an estimate of how much water can be saved every day by using the MLOG system, derived as follows:
65% of unaccounted for water is leakage
75% of that leakage is economically recoverable
The MLOG network will locate 50 - 100% of this recoverable leakage depending on its efficiency (that is, how many services have an MLOG sensor)

Number of service leaks: Long-running leaks on service lines account for the core of water loss. Approximately 1 in 700 services will develop a leak in a year.

Daily leakage per service: This value is an estimate of how much leakage will remain in the distribution system after MLOG installation. It is a useful statistic for measuring how well losses in the distribution system are controlled. Less than 25 gallons per day is a sustainable target. Typically water utilities lose between 40 and 100 gallons per service per day.
